WHAT IF I’VE NEVER CLIMBED BEFORE?

Then our Essential Recreational Tree Climbing course is a good place to start! It’s a comprehensive introduction to the world of recreational tree climbing and it’s the only one of it’s kind the in UK.
It’s also the only independently awarded recreational tree climbing course for first time climbers in the world.

Goodleaf have developed this exclusive recreational tree climbing course along with Lantra Awards, part of Lantra, the UK’s Sector Skills Council for land-based and environmental industries. After the course, you’ll be able to independently ascend, descend and move around confidently in a large tree using DdRT (doubled rope technique).

The course is fun, but it’s physical and you will be outside climbing for the majority of the time. Prepare for lots of fresh air and exercise!

If you’d like a taster to see if recreational tree climbing is for you why not book yourself onto our Goodleaf two-hour experience.

WILL I HAVE CLIMBING TIME DURING THE COURSE?

Absolutely. We believe the best way to learn is to do – after the right kind of instruction of course! You’ll be learning and practising new skills all the time. Your instructor Paul McCathie will be with you every step of the way to help you build your confidence and get as much as possible from the three-day course.

WHAT’S PROVIDED WITH THE COURSE?

Plenty! You’ll get a welcome pack, full of detailed information including tree ID, workbooks, a climbing log and some cordage so you can get started on your knot tying. Click here to see tree climbing knot videos that we have created just for Essential Recreational Tree Climbing participants.

All gear is provided so you can try out different equipment and find out what suits you best. Advice from Paul will help you work out the best equipment to buy once you’ve completed the course. Oh, and best of all, you get your very own Goodleaf mug!

You’ll receive a Goodleaf attendance certificate plus certificate from Lantra Awards and Goodleaf on passing the assessment as well as Climber Directory membership.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

It’s £325, and there’s a 10% discount if you book for two people or more. A maximum of three will climb on each course. There are some discounts available on ferry travel and some of our favourite island accommodation.
